A New and Improved To-Do List

Lisa Nichols is an inspirational and motivational speaker, businesswoman, mother, and, most of all, someone who knows the power of her words and uses them to lift others up. One of her many transformational videos inspired this blog post.

Many of us use to-do lists in our daily lives and write our tasks very plainly. For example, if you need to exercise, you’ll probably write exercise or work out on your to-do list; if you need to cook, you’ll write cook on your to-do list. Next time you write your to-do lists, try this instead.

Rename Your Tasks

Instead of writing “work out” or “exercise” on your to-do list, write “Bringing my sexy back.” *Insert JT singing Sexy Back in here, lol* This will help you be more motivated and rewire your thinking around the activity. The majority of people don't love the idea of working out every day or every other day, but everyone likes the idea of feeling and looking sexy strong, or beautiful.

Instead of writing “cook,” write “nourishing my body” or “fueling my body.” This allows you to correlate positive feelings with cooking. Using positive words such as nourish and fuel makes you not dread cooking as much. It also makes you want to have fun and eat healthier. This will also provide you with the opportunity to find what foods actually nourish and fuel you.

Instead of writing “reading” on your to-do list, write “Building my knowledge” or “Feeding my soul.” Many of us may want to read but don’t make time to do it in our schedules. The day goes by, and you say, “I’ll get to it eventually.” However, changing the task to “feeding my soul” will make you want to do it because in order to show up as your best self every day your mind, body, and soul need to be aligned, it’s not just one or the other. Making reading a priority will help you grow and learn more about yourself and the world around you.

I like Lisa Nicholas's idea of renaming tasks because it allows you to have more fun and be intentional with your words and to-do list. Life and death is behind the power of the tongue. Choose to speak good, write good, and be intentional with your daily actions.

I know to-do lists can be tedious sometimes, but try to make them fun for yourself. Rename your tasks, allow some fun downtime in your day, and don’t overwhelm yourself thinking about everything that needs to get done; be intentional. I hope this blog post helps you rethink your daily tasks and helps you see them in a more positive light.
